   Do I need an IDE?

ntXdll does not need a development environment. You also can work with VBA, the macro language of Office or with Windows Scripting Host. VBA is very usefull when you want to store your documentation data in Office documents like Excel sheets or Access databases.

Windows Scripting Host is the integrated script language on Windows 2000 or higher. You can write your commands in a textfile. Then, you save the file with the extension .vbs. The file can be executed as a script. You can download Windows Scripting Host for Windows NT 4.0.
